Android Honeycomb the new Android OS | Features of Android 3
Google has introduced their new Android OS, Android Honeycomb or Android 3.0.
Android Honeycomb is the first Android OS to be optimized for tablets, and it’s all
new to hear more.
Android Honeycomb is designed for devices with larger screen sizes, especially
tablets.New Android OS has a truly virtual and holographic user interface. Existing
Android features like multi-tasking, elegant notifications, access over 10,000
applications on Android market are there along with home screen customization
with a new 3D experience and redesigned widgets which are richer and interactive are
included in Android Honeycomb. New upgrades are made in the browser including
tabbed browsing, form auto-fill, synchronizing with Google Chrome bookmarks
and incognito mode for private browsing. Android Honeycomb also contains
Google Map 5 which is the mobile innovation of Google. Android 3.0 is compatible
with applications developed for earlier versions of the platform, or for smaller screens.

New User Interface of Android 3.0
New version of Android is optimized for tablets. Exciting features are added to enhance the UI of Android 3.0. Across the system users have quick access to notifications, system status and soft navigation buttons in a system bar. Some notable features of UI are:
· System Bar for global status and notifications
· Action Bar for application control
· Customizable Home screens
Five customizable Home screens give users instant access to all parts of the system from any context. Each customizable screen offers a large grid that maintains spatial arrangement in all orientations. Users are able to select and change widgets, application shortcuts and wallpapers using a dedicated visual layout mode.

Redesigned keyboard
The Android 3.0 keyboard is redesigned to make entering text fast and accurate on larger screens. The keys are reshaped and repositioned for improved targeting. Improved text selection, copy and paste options are added in Android Honeycomb.
Improved connectivity options
New connectivity features are included in new Android OS. Enhanced Media/Picture transfer protocol lets users instantly synchronize media files with a USB connected device.
Updated Standard Applications
The Android Honeycomb platform contains an updated set of standard applications that are designed for use on tablets.
Android 3.0 browser
New browser in Android 3.0 contains multiple tabs. Incognito mode allows private browsing. Bookmarks and history are presented and managed in a single unified view. Better browsing experience is provided for non mobile sites.
Camera and Gallery
Camera application is redesigned for tablet windows. Quick access to focus, flash and zooming is presented in Android 3.0. Gallery app will provide a full screen mode to view albums.
Contacts
Android is characterized by the fast scroll for contacts. Fast scroll let users easily organize and locate contacts. Application offers improved formatting of international phone numbers as user types.
Email
Two-pane UI is the new addition in the e-mail application of android honeycomb. Users can synchronize attachments for later viewing and keep track of email using a home screen Widget.
New 2D and 3D graphics of Android Honeycomb
New animation framework of Android 3.0 lets developers easily animate the properties of UI elements such as views, widgets, fragments or any arbitrary object. Android 3.0 also offers a new hardware accelerated OpenGL renderer that gives a performance boost to many common graphic operations for applications running in the Android framework. Renderscript 3D graphics engine is a runtime 3D framework that provides both an API for building 3D scenes as well as a special, platform independent shader language for maximum performance.
